MASTER OF TOWING - OCEANS
My Pops, a retired Navy Ship Captain, had a small sailing ship, a 44' Atkins Schooner which was where I was raised. At the age of three, I started to learn the ropes and I began to 'work the deck.' By the age of eight, I was being hoisted up the masts to tar the rigging, while other boys climbed rocks and trees. By age ten, I was studying celestial mechanics. Thank you Dad for instilling in me.....my love of the ocean!
My dad's ship was located in Oceanside Harbor, California. On weekends and during the summer months, I found myself working on the 1/2 day sport-fishing boat Palomar with old Captain Jack Bandy. We would take paying passengers out for fishing excursions. Over the years, I worked on different sport-fishing vessels of varying lengths from Oceanside south to San Diego. At age 19, I began studying for my captain's license and subsequently received a 100 ton captain's license. Over the years, I've worked on sport fishing boats, commercial fishing vessels, yachts, supply vessels overseas, and towing vessels. In doing so, I've upgraded my license to a 1,600 / 3,000 ton Master upon Oceans.
